Office Politic Sucks. Classroom Drama Rocks!

Classroom #1
T : Okay, you may write your name now.
S : Tulis, cigu?
T : Now, please read the passage silently.
S : Baca, cigu?

Classroom #2
T : Can I borrow anyone's stapler, please? (walking around and grabbed someone's stapler)
S : Jahat stapler tu, cigu. Tak boleh pakai lagi.

Note : Stapler jahat = stapler jaik (in Iban) = stapler rosak.

Classroom #3
T : What's wrong with your eyes, boy? Why are they red?
S : Mata saya terachuk pen, cigu.
T : What is it?
S : Terachuk pen (while doing the action)
T : (still puzzled and later, an Iban teacher meddled in the conversation)
T Iban : Tercucuk pen lah!

Classroom #4
T : Is there anyone here interested in joining an essay writing competition?
S : It is always me, teacher. Bagi orang bukan pulak.

Note: orang bukan = orang bukai (in Iban) = orang lain.

Classroom #5
A student wrote this for an essay:

"... Abdul action sleeping so the kidnappers don't care about him."

Note : action sleeping = eksen tido (in local Sarawak dialect) = berpura-pura tidur

Classroom #6
S : Teacher, what do we say gerai in English?
T : Stall.
S : (continued doing his essay and handed in not long after)


Teacher found one interesting sentence in his essay, which says:

"I pray you will stall from the fever."

Note : gerai (in Malay) = stall, however the student actually meant gerai (in Iban) = sembuh (Malay) = get well/recover (in English)!!

Classroom #7
Teacher was discussing a text for the summary with her students one day. Students were asking about new words like pyrotechnics, sizzling Latin dance, vuvuzelas etc. Teacher got ideas to Google them as she is using her laptop to show the text, so might as well access Internet for the meanings just to be different from the usual chalk and talk. The text mentions the names of  Malaysia's famous personalities including Tomok, Hafiz and Vanessa Chong (Amazing Race Asia). However, most of the students could not recall Vanessa Chong so teacher has to Google Image her, and voila it appears on the LCD screen for the students to view!

You can just imagine how excited the boys were with the first image. Remember to set the SafeSearch mode ON next time, buddy!

I have told you. Teaching wasn't the last resort for me. I love my job - teaching kids :)
