Yes, my birthday was yesterday but it's not the reason for my blog post today. I know I should be fishing excited to tell you about my nice gifts and presents I got from husband and friends. However, I am more excited with the coming Election Day for the state of Sarawak on 16th April.
FYI, it'd be my first time voting but I can ensure all that I am ready (ready isn't even the best word to describe how prepared I am) for the election. I had just spent a fortune just to get my ass back to Kuching to cast my vote on that day.
I was cynical about politics and politicians before but those aren't the reasons on why I registered myself to vote. I registered to vote because I want to do my part and help a little in saving the future of Sarawak's land, sources, people and culture. And that, I won't talk much about today. I know what I'm doing and to those who haven't registered, don't feel pressured to do so. The time will come (like getting married) and that time will tell you what you must do. I just hope that THAT TIME would come sooner for many :-)
My urge to vote didn't only come from articles I read, news I've watched or whatever the mass media are feeding us every seconds, every day. The urge appears from something I call EXPERIENCE / PERSONAL ENCOUNTER. I see/observe and I grow up watching/listening to/loving/playing with/inhaling/exhaling Sarawak. I love my state & all the beautiful people.
I can't wait for another FIVE YEARS to make/witness a change in my BELOVED state.
.....and with that, I think I will reach my maturity on 16th April. Right after I cast my ballot.
Happy Birthday, me. *making a wish & blowing candles for Sarawak*.

ReplyDeleteYes, I met others who keep saying their votes won't change a thing. We still going to have the same government, same people to rule our land i.e. Lastly, they would say politic is just a game, a dirty one. If I'm going to meet these ppl again, I will tell them politic is not a game, politic is what govern our daily life. It's dirty because you let the buggers to play it that way and you do it by deciding not to lift your single finger to cast the vote. Blame others when things didn't go their ways but never reason why things went the other ways.SJ.

ReplyDeleteSJ : thanks for sharing opinions. it's sad that these people still think their votes don matter. however, we cant blame them 100% too. in msia, it's a rare sight to see any party (political or not) promoting on practising rights such as voting. maybe they're like that because they're (we're) not exposed enough to democracy or freedom of speech. so they might be thinking that even if they vote or not, they'll be condemned or the situation would be the same.
but i urge the unregistered voters to at least consider about voting because your votes do matter :)
Thanks again SJ :)
