Hari Sarawak, Hari Malaysia.

It's today, 16 September 2010, that another great history of our country is recognized. After 47 years of formation and also a date to remark the independence of Sarawak & Sabah, this date is finally celebrated by declaring a public holiday for all people of Malaysia. It's a grand day that ALL Malaysians should not overlook. To East Malaysians, it means some other thing and to West Malaysians, it means different thing. BUT, an important historical event has happened 47 years ago in Malaysia.

Malaysia is indeed a beautiful country and I'm proud & grateful to be part of it. In my opinion, without Tanah Melayu, Sarawak wouldn't be as what as it is today (I don't think many Sarawak graduates survive speaking of the job opportunity here in our state). AND, without Sarawak & Sabah, Tanah Melayu wouldn't be as beautiful as today - as from Sarawak & Sabah you learn about the Ibans, Bidayuhs, Kayans, Kenyahs, Lun Bawangs, Kadazans, Dusuns, Muruts, Berawans, Mamalohs etc.

We need each other and I think it wouldn't be fair to say that we are better off alone. It's too late for the what ifs after 47 years. History had happened and the past had made what we are today. So, I think that each Malaysian should cherish the history and work together in making this beautiful country a better place to live in.

On the other hand, it'd be good to talk about and pay tribute to one of our great warriors who had fought the British until his last breath.
Rentap Libau is truly a great warrior and not only he's an inspiration to the Ibans, but to all Malaysians too. Being an Iban (Balau), I'm proud to claim that I'm one of his ancestors. As I read history of him, it's frustrated to note that most written mentioned about him being rebellious, but the "rebellion" was due to the White Rajah's or James Brooke's action of eliminating the Ibans in Skrang because he thought they were pirates. Only after many attempts and with the aid of bigger cannons did James Brooke defeat Rentap. His fighting spirit was tremendous and he had made popular (until now) the saying, "Agi idup, Agi Ngelaban" which means "I will fight as long as I will live." Angkatan Tentera Malaysia dubbed the battlecry as their motto until present time.

Seen here is another great Iban fighter, Kanang anak Langkau, paying tribute to his legendary aki. Click on the name to read more on him.

It doesn't matter to which group we belong to, and it doesn't matter what beliefs we profess. It's the time when we come together to commemorate another history, remembering whom had fought for the independence we have today and at the end of the day, being thankful of the freedom they fought for us by living peacefully with one another. It'd be a shame if one day, we fight against different group of races from the same country when once upon a time our great aki inis fought foreigners for freedom.

I believe that Malaysia is indeed the best country on Earth (something I wouldn't want to trade with anything else), but not the propaganda. Errkk..

Selamat Hari Malaysia to all beautiful Malaysians!
