I Know What To Blog Today!

I was teaching on Hak Asasi Kanak-kanak for P. Moral today and students were behaving quite well despite of the Monday blue. So, I told them a bit of my childhood and compare it to theirs. 11-years gap DOES have a lot of differences!

I was born to a mid-class family, and my Apak was the eye of the tiger for many years in his schools. His strict principles didn't apply ONLY at schools, but at home too. Unlike other kids our age, my brother and I, we didn't have toys to play with. He NEVER bought toys for us except the free gifts we got from Tora and DingDang. We didn't complain, but personally I thanked him for that because it taught ONE thing. Will blog about it some other time. So, my bro and I, we only had to make do with things around the house to keep our kids' times busy.

My big bro Nick, and I, would play with the old-school magnetic car audio speaker. We had our own add-ons i.e.the thumb tacks, until one day one of them got into my bare feet and I cried like hell. All Mak had to say was, "Sepik asai. Kra agi.." (meaning, you go figure! hehe..). Sometimes, my Apak brought home some coconuts and guess what did we do with them. We invented coconuts-bowling. When we moved to our new house in Stephen Yong Road (our current residence), life was getting more adventurous to us. Water-gun using the water hose, spraying water to neighbours' backyards...and clothes. Playing with the toilet flush, plucking almost ALL bunga rayas around the neighbourhood and played masak-masak...the list is endless! I think my childhood memories rock! MAJOR!

Two weeks ago, I was singing one of my kiddies rhymes in Sai's car and we cracked into a big laugh when Ee screamed, "Serius, lagu apa ya?!! Apa aku sik tauk?!!" I think most of you readers know the clapping game Tun Fatimah. It goes something like this;

Tun Fatimah sudah lahir,
Dia menangis macam itik.
Uwek! Uwek! Uwek! Uwek! Uwek! (doing action while cradling the baby).

Tun Fatimah sudah sekolah,
Dia menggosok baju.
Gosok! Gosok! Gosok! Gosok! Gosok! (Action: Ironing clothes).

Tun Fatimah sudah besar,
Dia menjadi askar.
Tembak! Tembak! Tembak! Tembak! Tembak! (Action: Pointing gun and shoot!).

Tun Fatimah sudah mati,
Dia menjadi pontianak.
Cekik! Cekik! Cekik! Cekik! Cekik! (Action: Aim your friend's neck and choke!!).

I think this kinda of game was interesting and even still is. Other than this one, I still remember Under The Rainbow, Ola Oli, batu seremban, main tudung botol, Police Entry, main tapok, Ram Si Garam Ram Ret!!, main tepuk kad atas lantai, Zero Point, Pak Ali beli telur pecah sebiji, etc... It takes nights to finish the list!

No research needed, but it proves to me that - Kids our days had more fun!

Do share your childhood playtime with us here!

Current song: Thank You by Dido
