When I went to school the next morning, I wasn't surprised at all to see only 8 students turned up for Pengakap. Some said they were tired after the 3-days Sports Day, and some were said to have gone to the Borneo Cultural Fest (BCF) which started last Friday night. OK.
BCF was never in my list because:
a) I am fussy in finding a good spot for parking my car, my only asset for now.
b) Unless I'm urged by my parents/I'm with them, packed crowd is not my favourite.
c) I don't see any tourists around, which suggested another thing for me.
To spend the night, my pack & I decided to go food-hunting (in which I can fulfill my craving for cold beer & steak), and watch Ice Age 3. As soon as we reached pintu gerbang Sibu, traffic jam had already claimed its spots. Roads were closed (sesukahati-ly)without notices to the public for alternatives routes. To make things worse, the ever popular drivers of the state parked their cars (also sesukahati-ly) by the roadsides. All for the sake of watching our PM, Najib and wife, passing by and waving, along the road. It took us almost 2 hours, stucked in the congestion and in the end we have to cancel our plan for a nice dinner. We only had to make do with McD's. Erhhmm.. Luckily, Ice Age 3 was a treat for the aching hearts.
International event? I don't think so. This town would only have to settle for BCF only, unless they come up with a proper plan at least in controlling the traffic for a grand event like this. To conclude the night, THE drivers will always be THE drivers. If you know what I mean . .
